THE MEADOWS
Douglas,
The Isle of Man
A super-prime private residence on the outskirts of Douglas, and one of the most ambitious houses on the island. James Brookman Design's brief ran across the whole property: formal reception rooms, a double-height super room, entertainment and party spaces, a full wellness suite, and grounds laid out to make the most of the Manx landscape.
Photographing a house of this scale is a question of sequencing - establishing the architecture in its setting, then moving inside to hold each room at its best hour. The formal rooms wanted stillness and symmetry; the entertainment and party spaces wanted atmosphere, shot into the evening as the lighting scheme came into its own.
The result is a set that reads as one house rather than a collection of rooms - a full architectural and interiors record for the designer, the build team and the property itself.
